Democracy Shouldn’t Fail at Paperwork: Introducing Our 2026 Voter Initiative

On 9 and 10 October 2026, Czechia heads to the municipal polls. For many of us, this is a moment to shape the future of our neighborhoods, local schools, and public spaces. Yet, for nearly 60,000 EU citizens living here in Prague, the path to the ballot box is obscured by administrative hurdles and ignorance.

We are a volunteer-led civic initiative dedicated to making local politics more representative. At Volby pro Všechny [Elections for All], we believe that your voice in the city where you live and pay taxes should not be silenced by bureaucratic complexity or ignorance. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our 2026 voter mobilization project.

The Problem: A Missing Voice

Under Czech law, EU citizens have the right to vote in municipal elections. But the current registration process is so confusing that only 3% of eligible EU citizens in Prague are registered to vote*. In some districts, EU citizens make up over 10% of the population, yet their potential influence remains largely untapped.

Our 2026 Solution

This year, we’re launching a multi-layered campaign to turn that 3% into a powerful force for democratic participation:

  • EU Voter Registration Tool: We are building a streamlined, click-and-send digital tool that takes the hassle out of the registration process, ensuring it is fully compliant with the law.
  • Who does what?” Tool: Understanding local government is hard. We’re creating a guide to help you distinguish between the responsibilities of your district, the city, and the national level.
  • “Where do I vote?” Tool: A simple, location-based service to help you find your polling station quickly.
  • Voting Reminders: We’ll provide opt-in tools to help you make a concrete plan to vote, a proven method for increasing turnout.
  • In-depth Information Campaign: In collaboration with partners like Expats.cz, we will be breaking down the electoral system, explaining what’s at stake, and providing neutral information about local political landscapes.

Why It Matters

Research globally shows that higher electoral turnout among residents with migration backgrounds fosters better social integration and strengthens the legitimacy of our democracy. By reducing administrative friction, we are making an investment in a healthier, more inclusive city.

We Need Your Support

Whether you are a potential voter, a local party, a funder, or an embassy, you have a role to play in strengthening our democracy:

  • EU Citizens: Get ready to exercise your right. Keep an eye on our channels for the launch of the Registration Tool!
  • Political Parties: We have detailed data on potential EU voters in every Prague district. Reach out to us to learn how you can better engage this community.
  • Funders & Partners: We are currently seeking project funding and strategic advice to build our tools and execute our communications campaign between May and October.

Democracy shouldn’t fail because of paperwork. Join us in making this autumn’s elections the most representative yet.
