Volby pro Všechny: Multilingual Tool Encourages Participation of New Citizens in Czech Democracy
Prague, [4.9.2025] – There are no Czech data, but research in other European countries shows that naturalized citizens often do not exercise their right to vote due to unfamiliarity with the system, uncertainty, or a sense that their vote does not matter. The initiative Volby pro Všechny aims to increase electoral participation among new Czech citizens. Through the website www.volbyprovsechny.cz the initiative provides clear, accessible information about the electoral process and a practical and unique party match quiz that helps new voters navigate the Czech political landscape—available in Ukrainian, Russian, Vietnamese, Czech, and English.
Between 2019 and 2023, more than 30,000 people obtained Czech citizenship. In the next five years, up to 350,000 permanent residents could apply for citizenship. According to Juryj Laurencjev, “The number of new voters with a migration background will therefore steadily grow, and their participation could significantly influence the future of Czech democracy.”
This project was developed by a team living in the Czech Republic with migration backgrounds, who understand firsthand the challenges faced by new citizens. We are united by a shared goal: to encourage active citizenship among new Czechs and strengthen democratic culture.
