The sixteen questions reflect some of the most important issues in Czech politics, as well as pressing issues facing the society more broadly. We also selected issues that are more relevant to people with migration backgrounds, i.e. the naturalized citizens we are trying to motivate to vote. Of course our questions do not cover all of the important issues, but we wanted to keep the quiz short and user friendly.
We have coded the parties’ positions on each question according to whether the party would most likely agree, disagree, or be neutral. Our evaluation of the parties’ answers is based on our own research into the parties’ platforms and public statements, with assistance from AI. You can find a quick overview classification from our evaluation of the parties’ answers here, and a more detailed explanation here.
Our quiz analyzes how your answers to the questions compare to the parties’ answers, and matches you to the party whose answers mostly closely resemble yours. The percentage number you see in your results reflects how close the match is; a 100% match means that your answers are identical to that particular party’s views, while a lower percentage means that your views do not generally correspond to that party’s positions on the issues.
Which parties have we included, and which have excluded?
There are many active political parties & movements in Czechia, and new parties routinely emerge. Including every party in Czech politics would make our quiz too complex, which is why we have excluded parties whose appeal is too limited to attract many voters. We made this selection based on a few guidelines.
First of all, seven parties are currently represented in the Czech parliament. These parties cleared the 5% threshold in the 2021 elections. Such a threshold is a common practice in multiparty democracies throughout the world: it seeks to ensure that parliaments are not excessively fragmented, and that the parties in parliament represent the interests of a non-trivial number of voters. All these parties are included in our quiz.
Other guidelines for inclusion:
- Party has received at least 5% of total votes in two previous electoral cycles
- Party has polled above or within a percentage point of 5% in at least one poll in the past 1,5 years.
We have also chosen to include parties that are populist, or otherwise categorized by political scientists as xenophobic and/or nationalist. (See here and here for relevant classifications.) Our rationale is to present a reasonably objective choice to anyone who uses our quiz.
How can I find out more about which parties might appeal to me?
