Seats in Parliament:

Motoristé sobě does not hold any seats in parliament.

History:

Motoristé sobě was founded in 2022 by František Matějka, originally to contest the Prague municipal elections. Although unsuccessful locally, the party gained national attention through its populist, pro-motorist messaging and in 2024 entered the European Parliament as part of a joint list with Přísaha, securing one seat.

Political Position:

Motoristé sobě combines populist and nationalist rhetoric with a focus on defending motorists’ rights. The party opposes expanded bicycle infrastructure and promotes policies favoring car drivers. It is Eurosceptic and critical of environmental regulations perceived as limiting personal freedom.

Voters:

Motoristé sobě primarily attract:

  • Young, predominantly male voters drawn to the party’s populist and anti-establishment rhetoric
  • Individuals with a basic education, often from smaller towns and rural areas, who feel marginalized by urban-centric policies
  • Car enthusiasts and drivers, particularly those frustrated by urban planning that prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists over motorists
  • Voters seeking nationalist and Eurosceptic alternatives

Performance:

They gained significant attention during the 2024 European Parliament elections. Running as part of the Přísaha and Motorists coalition, the alliance secured 2 seats, with Filip Turek, a former racing driver, elected as one of the Members of the European Parliament. The coalition received approximately 10.26% of the national vote, placing third overall. This marked a notable entry into Czech national politics, reflecting a growing appetite among voters for alternatives to traditional parties. However, the two parties could not agree on a joined platform for the 2025 national elections, and the support for Motoristé has declined due to a number of scandals, with current polling indicating it falls below the 5% threshold required for parliamentary representation.

Perception on Corruption:

Motoristé sobě struggle with a reputation for non-transparent financing and personal scandals surrounding their leadership, which undermines their credibility on corruption-related issues.
